Tottenham Hotspur need a No. 9 striker. They are expected to make a move in the winter.
Britain’s ‘Team Talk’ reported on the 8th (KST), “Tottenham will make a £68.5 million offer to Juventus for Blahovic in January. They are looking to finally fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure. Tottenham want a center back to replace Micky van der Penne and a new number nine in the winter transfer window. Ivan Toney is a great player but we have decided to move on to other targets and have chosen Vlaahovic.”
When Kane went to Bayern Munich, Tottenham didn’t immediately sign a powerhouse striker. Alesso Bellis came in, but he was a prospect. When that didn’t work out, Tottenham turned to Son Heung-min as a zero-top. Heung-min has done well, scoring nine goals in the PL alone, but the team’s goal-scoring options outside of him have been very poor. His decision-making has been poor, and it’s put a lot of pressure on him.
Coach Enze Postecoglou has also admitted to a lack of influence up front. In an interview after the 1-2 loss to West Ham United, he said, “The front line is very disappointing. If we want to score more goals, we need to have more influence up front. We have more problems up front than in other areas and we need to fix that and then we will improve as a team.” “Postecoglou is determined to bring in a striker in the upcoming transfer window,” said Football London.
Vlahovic was named as a target. Vlahovic’s nickname is the Serbian Bomber. While playing for Fiorentina, he scored 21 league goals and earned praise. His form continued the following season and Juventus snapped him up. He filled the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Manchester United. Blahovic has been a consistent first-choice striker and scored 10 goals in the Italian Serie A last season, but he hasn’t been the same destructive force he was at Fiorentina.
This season, Blahovic has been a regular starter. He has scored five goals in 12 Serie A appearances. Tottenham would do well to add him to their squad. The addition of a solid No. 9 would boost Postecoglou’s tactics of playing attacking soccer and take the pressure off Son Heung-min.
“Blahovic is a player Tottenham have been eyeing as a replacement for Kane since he was linked with a move to Manchester City,” says Team Talk. Son has scored nine goals to fill the Kane void, but Postecoglou feels the frontline needs strengthening. Blahovic is the perfect target and has a similar style to Kane. He would be an ideal signing for Postecoglou. The £12.8 million annual wage is likely to tempt him. We don’t know if it’s an offer that Blahovic will be happy with.”
