Women’s basketball KB halts Hana WonQ surge, returns to 8-game winning streak to share top spot

Cheongju KB of the Korean Women’s Professional Basketball League (KWPNL) held off Bucheon Hana WonQ, who had been on a recent upswing, to win their eighth straight game and return to the top of the standings.KB defeated Hana OneQ 72-55 in their home game of the Woori Bank Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball League regular season at Cheongju Gymnasium on Wednesday.KB, which has won eight straight games, improved to 10-1 on the season and moved back into a tie for first place with Asan Woori Bank.KB hasn’t lost to Woori since their third meeting this season, a 71-72 loss on Nov. 15. Woori Bank has also only lost to KB once, on Nov. 27, so the two teams are in a tight race for first place.Hana OneQ has seen its recent winning streak come to a halt at three games.

With five wins and seven losses, Hana OneQ remains in third place, but has lost ground on fourth-place Yongin Samsung Life (4-6).The game was tightly contested in the first quarter, but after taking a 12-8 lead on Park Ji-soo’s third three-pointer of the season with just over five minutes left in the first quarter, KB pulled away to finish the quarter 23-14.In the second quarter, the gap widened to 42-29 at halftime as KB grabbed 14 rebounds, including five from Park Ji-soo and four from veteran Yeom Yoon-ah, to outrebound Hana OneQ, which only managed four.After Lee Chae-eun and Yum Yoon-ah combined for six straight points to start the second half, KB pushed the lead to more than 20 points, making it 59-38 with 2:35 left in the third 슬롯게이밍 quarter on two free throws from Kang Yi-eul.
