The KT Wiz won their third straight game. The LG Twins, on the other hand, fell into a five-game losing streak.
KT won the ninth game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the LG Twins 4-3 in 12 extra innings at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on April 26.
Starting lineups for both teams
KT’s batting order was Kim Min-hyuk (right fielder), Kim Sang-soo (shortstop), Alford (left fielder), Park Byung-ho (first baseman), Jang Jang-woo (catcher), Kang Baek-ho (designated hitter), Hwang Jae-gyun (third baseman), Park Kyung-soo (second baseman), and Cho Jae-dae (center fielder).
LG’s batting order was Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Park Hae-min (center fielder), and Shin Min-jae (second baseman).
One-run game until the 3rd inning, tense pitching battle
After getting the first batter, Hong Chang-ki, to ground out to the third baseman in the first inning, Ko Young-pyo got off to a good start by getting Moon Sung-joo to fly out to center and Kim Hyun-soo to fly out to right. He didn’t allow a single hit or walk until the third inning.
LG starter Im Chan-kyu gave up a run in the bottom of the inning when he gave up a double to Hwang Jae-gyun, got Park Kyung-soo to ground out to second base, and then gave up a sacrifice fly to Choi Jae-dae. However, he remained steadfast and finished the inning without allowing another run.
Leadoff hitter to score, two doubles by Hwang Jae-gyun
In both the second and fourth innings, KT’s leadoff hitter reached base and scored. Hwang Jae-gyun did his part.
In the second inning, Hwang hit a double to left-center off LG starter Im Chan-kyu. He then moved to third on an infield grounder by Park Kyung-soo and scored on a sacrifice fly to the outfield by Choi Jae-dae. It was KT’s first run.
One run in the top of the fourth inning. After tying the game, KT immediately regained the lead. Hwang Jae-gyun led off again, this time with a double to right-center field.
He then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Park Kyung-soo and crossed home plate on a timely double down the left field line by Choi Byeong-dae. He then stole third and scored on a fielder’s choice when Kim Min-hyuk grounded into an infield single. The score was 3-1.
LG fights back to tie the game at 3-3
LG didn’t go down without a fight. In the top of the eighth, Park Hae-min singled to center field and Shin Min-jae drew a walk. With runners on first and second, Hong Chang-ki hit a two-run double to right-center field.

Ko Young-pyo kept the LG bats in check with 97 pitches until the seventh inning. In seven innings, he allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk. However, Young-pyo’s victory was short-lived as Park Young-hyun allowed the tying run to score.

KT brought up Kim Jae-yoon to close out the game. He was in trouble when he gave up a walk to the first batter, Oh Ji-hwan, and allowed a stolen base. However, Park Dong-won failed to bunt and gave up a single to Moon Bo-kyung, but the center fielder made a strong throw home to catch Oh Ji-hwan, who rounded third base and ran home.
LG requested a video replay, but the outcome didn’t change. Park Hae-min then hit a hard shot that looked like it was headed for left field, but third baseman Hwang Jae-gyun made an animalistic catch.
The game moved to the bottom of the ninth inning, and the first batter, Park Byung-ho, singled down the left field line. Oh Yoon-seok pinch-hit for Park and Jang Sung-woo singled to put runners on first and second. After Kang Baek-ho flied out to center field, Hwang Jae-gyun followed with a grounder to short, but Park Kyung-soo flied out to center field, sending the game into extra innings.
In the 12th inning, Hwang Jae-gyun, the leadoff hitter, singled up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Park Kyung-soo. Choi Jae-dae then drew a walk and Kim Jun-tae, who pinch-hit for Ahn Chi-young, struck out swinging with runners on first and second. Kim Sang-soo hit a grounder to the third baseman, but LG third baseman Moon Bo-kyung threw to second instead of first.
