“This is the kind of tournament that our professional teams should be participating in.”
The Asia-Pacific Women’s Basketball Challenge (AWBC), organized by sports holding company Realeague, kicked off on Sunday in Haikou, Hainan Province, China, with four days of 카지노 커뮤니티 action.
Initially, four teams were scheduled to participate, including the W-League (Japan) Eneos Sunflowers, WCBA (China) champion Guangdong New Century Basketball Club, New Zealand’s Tokomana and Queens, and South Korean unemployed team Seodaemun-gu, but Eneos withdrew due to recent social issues between Japan and China. Instead, the WCBA’s Beijing Great War stepped in.
South Korea was represented by Seodaemun-gu Office as the WKBL teams did not participate due to scheduling issues. Seodaemun-gu Office is a domestic unemployed team led by head coach Park Chan-sook. They have a big advantage over the other teams.
In their first game of the tournament against Guangdong New Century Basketball Club, they lost 40-93. Guangdong is the 2023-2024 WCBA champion and a traditional powerhouse. The Korean unemployed team was unable to overcome a team that even teams in the WKBL struggle to beat.
“They are all professional teams except for us,” said coach Park Chan-sook. In terms of physical condition and skill, they are not at the level we can face. From the beginning, I told the players not to be discouraged by the opponent’s skill and to do our best to play the way we have been training. Playing against such a strong opponent will make the teams we face at the national championships seem easier,” said the coach.
“I think our professional teams should participate in such a tournament, which has a good purpose and will continue to develop in the future, so I hope that next time professional teams will not miss such an opportunity and participate to increase the competitiveness of Korean women’s basketball,” he said, adding that he also had a heart for women’s basketball.
