All 12 players who will compete in the FIBA U18 Asian Men’s Basketball Championship 2024 have been called up.
Following the conclusion of the 79th National Boys’ and Girls’ Championships, the players who were selected to the U18 squad gathered in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, for their training base camp. The team will compete at the FIBA U18 Asian Championship 2024 from September 2-9 in Amman, Jordan.
The squad, which began convening on September 1, was completed on the evening of the 3rd with the addition of Lee Byung-yup (Gyeongbok High School 3), Jang Hyuk-joon (Yongsan High School 3) and Eddie Daniel (Yongsan High School 2). The team will begin their preparations for the 토토사이트 U18 Asian Championships on the 4th.
U18 head coach Jung Seung-won said, “Yesterday we added Wee Jin-seok (Samil High School 3), Lee Ji-won (Hwimun High School 3), and three players who played in the final of the individual tournament. We started training on the first day in Gwangju. The team is now complete and we are planning to start training in earnest,” said Lee.
The team was worried that they would have trouble finding a place to train like the adult national team, but luckily, with the cooperation of professional and university teams, they were able to find a place without much trouble. The team will train at Samilgo Gymnasium for the first week. Samilgo’s participation in the Weekend League Wangjung Wangsang gave the team access to the gym.
For the next two weeks, the team will train at Hyundai Mobis Yongin Practice Gym, which is away on a training camp in the Philippines. For the final four weeks, the team will use Kyung Hee University’s gym.
“In the first week, we will train at Samil, in the second and third weeks at the Hyundai Mobis practice gym, and in the last week at Kyung Hee University,” said Jung Seung-won. “In the first week, we will work on basic defensive tactics, defensive success and fast breaks, and on Thursday and Friday, we will play practice games against Hyundai Mobis and Kyung Hee University. We’ve scheduled about nine scrimmages in total. We will play a lot of practice matches to improve the things we need to improve and to get the direction we need to go,” said Kim, who shared her training plan.
“I didn’t watch the final today because I was traveling, but I watched the rest of the games,” said Chung, who checked on the performance of the U18s in search of glory at the championships. “Overall, I was disappointed. There were a lot of players who didn’t play as well as they did in the first half of the tournament because they played a lot of competitions, but there were also some players who played better than expected.”
Chung, who has emphasized the importance of a one-man team since his appointment, said he will instill a ‘one-man team spirit’ into the team and make it a team where all players play evenly.
“I told the players to prepare without regrets and play without regrets,” he said, “because that’s what the national team needs most. They are still motivated and passionate. We will bring out the best in the players and make a good team.”
The team will stay and train in Korea until the 29th before departing for Jordan on the 30th.
