The Samsung Lions have a starting rotation that would be the envy of any team in baseball.
From foreign one-two punchers like Connor Seabold and Danny Reyes, to “blue-blooded ace” Won Tae-in, “eldest brother” Baek Jung-hyun, and this season’s starter-turned-pitcher Lee Seung-hyun (No. 57), the Lions are pitching like cogs in a machine, sitting in third place with no points behind second-place LG.
During the four-game winning streak, the power of starting pitching was on full display. Baek Jeong-hyun, who started for LG Electronics in Jamsil on the first day, pitched 6⅔ innings with seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts. The highlight of his outing was a bases-loaded, no-hitter in the first inning. Samsung defeated LG 7-0 and Baek earned her third win of the season. “Starter Baek Jung-hyun pitched the most innings this season and showed his best pitching.” Manager Park Jin-man said.
Won Tae-in, who started against SSG in Daegu on Feb. 2, pitched nine innings of five hits (one home run), one walk, six strikeouts and three earned runs for his first complete game in his debut, reaching the 10-win plateau for the first time in two years. “I really wanted to get to 10 wins this season, and to get my 10th win with my first complete game in my debut is very meaningful,” Won said after the win.
Reyes earn his ninth win of the season
Reyes, who had been shaking his head at SSG all season, pitched 6⅔ innings of five hits (one home run), one walk, seven strikeouts and two runs in the three-game series to earn his ninth win of the season.
“I wanted to pitch better than the last two games against SSG, my main goal was to help the team win, and I’m glad I was able to do that,” Reyes said with a smile. “Before today’s game, I wanted to focus more on my pitches because they have a lot of guys in their lineup that can hit the long ball, and that helped me,” he added.
In his second start of the week, 파워볼실시간 Connor pitched six innings of seven hits (one home run), three walks, three strikeouts, and three runs against SSG on Thursday. Samsung defeated SSG 8-3 to complete a three-game weekend sweep and whistle for its fourth straight win.
“I had only four days off this week, so my shoulder was tired, but I just thought I’d give it my best shot today before we went up,” Connor said. “Fortunately, I was able to go six innings and I feel like I was able to help the team win, so it feels good,” he added.
With the starting pitching on track, the mound staff was able to relax.
“The starters are going longer innings, which is helping the bullpen stay healthy,” Park said. The starting pitchers are doing a good job, so we don’t need to use up the bullpen, which is a big help.”
Despite being at the bottom of the team batting average, the team has been showing off its offensive firepower, scoring a whopping 31 runs during the four-game winning streak. Samsung will face Hanwha (Daegu) and Kia (Gwangju) this week. Can they continue their winning streak with a solid starting lineup?
