Shin Min-seok emphasizes ‘defense’ and ‘fighting spirit’ ahead of his fourth season.
The Ulsan Hyundai Mobis are in the midst of preparations for the 2024-2025 season. The team began its preparations on July 31st. On July 2, they played a scrimmage against UP, a member of the Philippine Collegiate League’s first division.
While Kim Jun-il (16 points and 16 rebounds), Lee Woo-seok (11 points and three rebounds, including one three-pointer), and Park Moo-bin (10 points and six rebounds, including two three-pointers) scored double-digit points, Shin Min-seok also contributed eight points and three rebounds, including one three-pointer, in 24 minutes and 16 seconds. While the stats don’t mean much in an off-season scrimmage, 메이저사이트 he was praised for his improvement on defense.
“The trainers gave me a good workout on quickness and strength in the early morning, and I’m getting faster and faster as I work harder. In training, I try to keep up with faster players, and when I play with my center brothers, I try to hold on more, so I’m getting better,” he said of his defensive improvement.
“I’ve been working a lot on my core and lower body. Last year, I didn’t do circuit training because I went to the Universiade team, but this year I did it, and it was really hard.”
He said his keyword for next season is defense. “When I came to the pros, I deeply realized that if I can’t defend, I can’t play (in games). It’s important to play defense that suits the offense, whether it’s outside defense or center defense. I knew it in my head, but my body didn’t follow. I’ve been practicing so that I don’t have to think about it, it just comes out. I’ve gained confidence and I think I’ve improved a lot, but I still want to get better,” he said, revealing his desire to improve his defense.
Shin was limited to 27 games at the start of the 2023-2024 season due to a shoulder injury. He averaged 3.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 11 minutes and 33 seconds.
“I have a thirst for playing time. I think the most important thing as the season goes on is fighting spirit, and I’ve been a little weak, but I’m trying to focus more. I want to maintain this fighting spirit in every game and be judged by everyone as having improved in defense, and then my shots will come naturally.” He vowed to show his fighting spirit.
Finally, Shin concluded, “There were some things I overlooked by relying on my physicality. Now, I’m going to use my physical condition to show a good performance. Coach Kim (Do-Su) always catches my shots even though I know he’s tired in the morning, and my trainer brothers watch my workouts. I’m very grateful. I will do better,” he concluded the interview.
