Taehwan Kim, expelled for accumulating warnings

Playing with 10 men due to a red card, professional soccer K League 1 side Ulsan

Hyundai kept their hopes of advancing to the round of 16 alive with a win over Johor Darul Taqzim (Malaysia).

Head coach Hong Myung-bo’s side won 3-1 at home against Johor in the third leg of

their 2023-2024 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League (ACL) Group I

match on Thursday at the Ulsan Munsu Stadium.

Ulsan, who defeated BG Pathum United (Thailand) 3-1 in the first leg and lost 0-1 to

Kawasaki Frontale (Japan) in the second leg, moved to second place in the group with a 2-1 win over Johor (6 points).

Johor

Meanwhile, dropped to third place in the group with a 1-2-2 record (3 points).

Ulsan, who were winless in their last four official matches with two draws and two

losses, got their first win in five official matches.

They also scored three goals to end a four-match goal drought.

They also ended their bad blood with Johor. Ulsan was eliminated in the group stage of

last year’s ACL after losing two games to Johor.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all four teams in each group played in one country,

and Ulsan’s Group I was played in Malaysia.

After being eliminated by Johor on home soil, Ulsan avenged the loss with a win.

Ulsan took the lead just five minutes into the game when Jung Seung-hyun headed

home a Rubik’s Cube cross with his right foot from a corner kick.

After assisting on the opening goal, Rubikson went on to score multi-goal efforts in the

12th and 18th minutes of the first half.

However, Ulsan suffered a setback in the 36th minute when defender Kim Tae-hwan

was sent off for accumulating cautions.

Outnumbered, Ulsan reinforced its defense at the start of the second half by bringing

on Rubikson and bringing on Lee Myung-jae.

After regaining possession, Johor went on the offensive and put Ulsan under pressure

until Bergsson scored the equalizer with a powerful right-footed shot in the eighth minute of the second half.

Ulsan continued to make substitutions. In the 15th minute, Lee Dong-kyung was

replaced by Uhm Won-sang, followed by Kim Min-hyuk and Jang Si-young.

The substitutions improved Ulsan’s mobility and the team did not concede any more goals to Johor.

Pohang Steelers

Defeated Urawa Reds 2-0 in their second Group J match at Saitama Stadium in Japan.

With their third straight win, Pohang remained atop the group with nine points. Second-place Urawa is 1-1-1 (4 points).

Pohang opened the scoring in the 22nd minute of the first half with a goal from Jung

Jae-hee and added a goal from Go Young-joon four minutes into the second half.

This season’s East Asian ACL will feature the top three teams from each group and the

top two teams from each group advancing to the round of 16. 카지노사이트존
