Lotte snaps Doosan’s 12-game winning streak, escapes losing streak… Wilkerson wins debut

The Lotte Giants snapped the Doosan Bears’ 12-game winning streak.

The Giants defeated the Doosan Bears 7-2 in the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on Saturday.

Lotte (40-42), which snapped a three-game losing streak, is looking to return to a five-win season.

In his KBO debut, substitute foreign starter Aaron Wilkerson earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts over six innings.

LOTTE’s Noh Jin-hyuk went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a game-winning double, while Yoo Kang-nam and Jeon Jun-woo went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, respectively.

Third-place Doosan (44-1, 37-1), which had won a club-record 11 straight games the day before, failed to extend its winning streak.

Doosan starter Kwak Bin suffered his third loss of the season (eight wins) after allowing four runs on five hits and four walks in five innings.

The Doosan offense was held hitless after the fifth inning.

Doosan’s Heo Kyung-min went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while Jung Soo-bin went 1-for-3 with a home run and a run scored.

Lotte took the lead in the top of the second inning. After a leadoff walk by Jeon Jun-woo, a double by Park Seung-wook and a single by Yoo Kang-nam loaded the bases, Lotte scored four runs on an RBI double by Noh Jin-hyuk and an RBI single by Kim Min-seok.

Doosan loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning, but couldn’t capitalize on LOTTE starter Wilkerson.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Doosan put runners on first and second with a double by Lee Yoo-chan and a walk to Jung Soo-bin, who promptly scored on a single by Heo Kyung-min. Jeong Soo-bin’s agile base running was highlighted as he came home on a single.

In the sixth inning, however, Lotte loaded the bases with back-to-back singles by Yoo Kang-nam and Noh Jin-hyuk and a walk by Kim Min-seok. Yoon Dong-hee’s grounder to second scored a run.

LOTTE scored two more runs in the seventh inning with the bases loaded, 5-2, when Noh Jinhyeok grounded out to second base and Doosan second baseman Lee Yoo-chan took advantage of the throwing error.

Lotte’s second pitcher, Koo Seung-min, preserved the lead with a scoreless inning in the sixth, and Choi Joon-yong pitched the seventh, striking out three to end the inning.

Kim Jin-wook and Han Hyun-hee also pitched one inning each to close out the game.

Koo Seung-min became the 15th player in the KBO to reach 100 holds. 스포츠토토
